The dataset was compiled based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted by the Public Sociology Laboratory in three Russian regions—Sverdlovsk Oblast, the Republic of Buryatia, and Krasnodar Krai—between August 18, 2023, and November 19, 2023. It consists of 75 semi-structured interviews with residents of these regions and three ethnographic diaries, each focusing on a specific region. The interviews covered topics such as local life, including its positive and negative aspects and urban or rural problems; changes in the interviewees’ lives over recent years, particularly those connected to the war; emotions regarding the war; justifications or condemnations of the war; media consumption habits; and basic biographical details. Informants were primarily recruited through the “snowball” method during fieldwork. The ethnographic diaries document observations of how the war is reflected in public spaces and cultural life in cities and villages, descriptions of organized practices and forms of support for the army or war-related refugees, and recollections of informal conversations about the war initiated by either the researchers or the interviewees.
